The Principal's Profile

Mr Benson Mutambudzi is the Principal of Masvingo Teachers’ College. He is a veteran educationist whose career dates back to 1984 where he completed teacher training at Hillside Teachers College in Bulawayo. He obtained a Bachelor of Education (Educational Administration) from the University of Zimbabwe in 1997 and a Master of Education (Educational Management) from the Zimbabwe Open University in 2001.

Mr Mutambudzi joined teacher education in 1990 as a lecturer at the then Gwanda Zintec College. Among other things he taught Social Studies, Professional Studies and later Art Education. He held positions of Head of Subject, Lecturer in Charge, Head of Division (Academic Education) and then Dean of Faculty of Education at the same college which had transformed to become Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic. He was Acting Vice Principal for a cumulative period of three years and Acting Principal at the same college for almost a year. In 2012, Mr Mutambudzi was promoted to substantive Vice Principal for Seke Teachers’ College where he briefly stayed and was transferred to Masvingo Teachers College as Acting Principal in 2013. He was promoted to substantive Principal for Masvingo Teachers’ College in August 2014.

Mr Mutambudzi is a scholar whose research interests are in the lines of educational policy formulation, implementation and evaluation.

Regarding Masvingo Teachers’ College, Mr Mutambudzi’s vision is to transform the college into a world class teachers’ college that is driven by technology and current national policies in the production of ICT compliant Early Childhood Development and General primary school teachers. He has a passion to see the college becoming a solid, coherent and self-motivated working unit that is driven by the desire for quality inclusive education. Mr Mutambudzi endeavours to ensure that the college becomes a trend setter in the field of teacher education and that it evolves into a degree awarding institution that produces the best brand of primary school teachers for Zimbabwe and beyond. He aspires to see Masvingo Teachers’ College becoming the best resourced institution in the country with a highly motivated and focused staff who share the same vision and goals not only for personal gratification, but for the general good of all Zimbabwean citizens.
